1421341A
The first number identifies the model.
1421341A
The second number indicates the number of cylinders (in comparison, the Volvo 164, having six cylinders, would be "6").
1421341A
The third number indicates the number of doors.
2 = two door body
4 = four door body
5 = five door body (station wagon)
1421341A
The fourth number indentifies the type of engine:
1 = The car is equipped with the B18A engine until 1968. From 1969, the car is equipped with the B20A engine.
2 = The car is equipped with the B18D engine until 1968. From 1969, the car is equipped with the B20D engine.

4 = The car is equipped with the fuel injected B20E engine.
6 = The car is equipped with the B20F engine.
1421341A
The fifth number identifies the body type or the fitting of a sunroof:
1 = Station wagon with glass rear cargo side windows replaced by sheet-metal. Heightened roof.
2 = Base model.
3 = Standard body without sunroof (normal roof).
4 = ?

3 = M410 (3.54)
4 = M40/M400 (four-speed)
5 = M41/M410 (four-speed with overdrive)
6 = BW35 (three-speed automatic gearbox)
7 = ?
8 = M40/M400 (four-speed with column-shift gear change)
1421341A
The seventh number indicates the market:
