Er zijn vast 50 manieren om klepspeling af te stellen, makkelijk, moeilijk, snel, precies, rommelig, whatever. In het Volvo Servicehandboek (Service Manual Part 2, Engine B20A, B20B) wordt het als volgt omschreven (let op het woordje "satisfactorily"):
The valve clearance can be adjusted satisfactorily with the engine stationary, irrespective of whether or not it is cold or warm. The clearance is the same for both the inlet and the outlet valve.
When adjusting, use two feeler gauges, one "Go" 0.40 mm thick and the other "No-Go" 0.45 mm thick for the B20A (0.50 and 0.55 mm for the B20B). The clearance is adjusted so that the thinnest gauge can be inserted easily while the thicker one must not enter.
When the piston in No. 1 cylinder is at top dead center (the compression stroke) valve Nos. 1, 2, 3, and 5 (counted from the front) are adjusted, and with the piston in No. 4 cylinder at top dead center, valves Nos. 4, 6, 7 and 8.
Dus warm en koud tussen 0.40 en 0.45.
Ik gebruik 20W50 van MPM, of 15W50 van de Hema, als het maar goedkoop is.
Je kan de weerstand van je bougiekabels meten. Bosch 175T35 stond er voor de B20A, tegenwoordig W7BC, of NGK BP6HS, Champion L87Y.
