Yes, that in an 1966 1800.
Don't know if what I did would be of much help with a 144.
I used a 1979 242 manual rack with 4 inches cut from the middle.
I think the 144 has a wider track so that dimension may not hold.
That was done so the steering column shaft would clear the upper A arm pivot.
I hope the pictures help some.
By the way that's a B21 engine.
